This is the logo of J league division 1, known as J1. It was established in 1993, which had only ten teams to begin. As of 2019, there are 18 teams in the division. The top 3 teams in the league at the end of the year have the privilege to enter the Asian Champions League. The bottom 2 teams of the league are relegated to the second division, J2. The team that is third from the bottom joins a small tournament with teams third to sixth in J2, the winner will either remain in or be promoted to J1.
This is the logo of J league division 2, named J2. J2 was established in 1999 when the number of teams in J1 exceeded the maximum of 16 teams which was et when the league was established. There were then teams in the J2 when started. The first 2 teams to finish the league will automatically promote to J1. The teams finishing 3rd to 6th will participate in a tournament with the team finishing 3rd last from J1, the winner will remain in or be promoted to J1. The last 2 teams will automatically relegate to J3. As of 2019, there are 22 teams in the division.
This is the logo of J league division 3, named J3. It was established in 2014 when the teams in J2 exceeded the maximum of 22 teams. There were 11 teams in J3 when started. In this division, some of the teams are U-23 teams from J1 and J2 teams, teas with only 22 years old or younger who do not get many opportunities to play in the first teams. The first 2 teams to finish the league will automatically promote to J2 in an exchange with the 2 teams finishing last in J2. As of 2019, there are 18 teams in J3.
